Background Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the standard treatment for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is unknown whether conventional TACE (cTACE) should be continued or abandoned after initial nonresponse for intermediate-stage HCC. The optimal number of sessions before abandoning cTACE remains debated.
