The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals with little to no prior medical experience. As the industry standard for guide services and environmental education programs, this 80-hour course focuses on assessing, treating, and managing medical emergencies in remote wilderness settings — often beyond the “golden hour” and under extreme conditions. Students learn how to improvise with limited resources, make critical medical decisions, and safely plan evacuations when definitive care is far away.
Through hands-on training, field simulations (including a night rescue), and practical scenarios, participants gain real-world skills in treating medical and traumatic emergencies such as fractures, dislocations, heat and cold injuries, cardiac and respiratory issues, bites, and stings. Upon successful completion, students earn a WFR certification valid for two years. EMT and BLS/CPR certifications are offered in Logan, helping students build a strong foundation for wilderness and emergency response.
