The overall mortality rate was 21.6%. Volume of blood had poor predicting early and late mortality with an AUC of 0.50 [95% CI (0.42, 0.59)] and 0.50 [95% CI (0.43,0.57)], respectively. Regardless of mechanism, no transfusion volume was associated with a predictably high rate of mortality. There is no upper transfusion volume threshold to predict mortality in pediatric trauma patients who are massively transfused, regardless of mechanism.
