Hysteroscopy is a short outpatient procedure, carried out under local anaesthetic, which is commonly used to diagnose problems with the womb or uterus. Reasons for doing this include:

To take a biopsy of the womb lining to rule out cancer of the womb
To remove growths in the uterus such as polyps (small growths on the uterine lining), fibroids, adhesions or scar tissue within the womb
