If you've never heard of Il Padrino or The Godfather, don't worry — we'll keep context out of this blurb so you can read without any preconceived notions! But if you're looking to kill two hours and watch one of the best well-known mafia movies in Hollywood's history, look no further than Il Padrino.

Il Padrino is, in English, The Godfather. The movie takes place in Sicily (also known as Sicily) during the 1920s. It follows the rise of Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) to power in his Mafia family after his father dies. As he pulls his family through tough times, he finds his family torn by the conflicts of real world power struggles with both organized crime and political corruption at play. As he faces down these forces with all their might, he finds them not only unable to break him but unable to beat him.

The movie is based on the novella The Godfather by Mario Puzo, who also wrote the book on which The Godfather: Part II (199 is based.

This is not to say that this film is completely flawless. There are a few things that could be worked on. For one, if you're looking for a more serious mafia film, I'd recommend The Departed (2006). It has more of an organized crime and political corruption angle and also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. But if you want to watch the original mafia movie, even if it's just for fun, look no further than Il Padrino. *****FULL POST GOES HERE*****
Il Padrino- The Godfather (Italian: Il padrino) is a 1972 Italian epic crime drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel of the same name. The film stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the leaders of a fictional New York crime family.

The story, spanning 1945 to 1955, centers on the transformation of Michael Corleone (Pacino), the youngest son of mafia don Vito Corleone (Brando), into an unwilling family outsider after his older brother Sonny (James Caan) is murdered by corrupt police officers working for rival gangsters.

Michael is forced to go into hiding and become an outsider after his brother's death, but returns to the family in 1971 after five years of exile. He gradually builds up his role as the Godfather until he becomes the left hand man of Vito, taking care of day-to-day family business and planning for Vito's retirement. Michael soon finds that political corruption is afoot in New York City, a situation that can only be fixed if he gets involved directly.
