World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading The upgrade of an item allows players to boost the gear score of an item up to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you bring them to the kiln. Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like perfect made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not change significantly after an upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
