Stussy is a classic street wear company from around the globe, which began as a surf wear clothing brand. From its beginnings in the early 1980’Stüssy has always stayed true to the roots of streetwear, wearables, relaxed feeling but also wild graphics vivid. In this article, we are going to cover how the brand came into existence, and how it has influenced streetwear, and even why it still endures to this date in this highly saturated industry.

A Brief History of Stüssy
Stüssy was started by Shawn Stüssy in 1980 in Laguna Beach California. First of all, the brand was aimed at producing surfboards, having the logo of the creator Shawn Stüssy. When the logo became established, he branched to footwear selling shoes such as graphic t-shirts and hats that aligned with the cooler attitude to the surfer look.

In mid 1980’s Stüssy moved from the surf wear category to the street wear category due to this overlap of skate, hip-hop and punk look. This diversification was crucial to its success because the phenomenon of na surfers only was not very large.

The Streetwear Revolution
Stüssy was one of the pioneers in using the principals of streetwear style, the style which has a connection with youth culture, music, and sports. Spearheaded by creative directors Kerin Winterson and Ray Anderson, its designs that marked it with graphics, large silhouettes and logos became popular with freedom and identity.

It became a global icon, primarily because of the company’s decision to go for the selective distribution system. Even the simple prints and graphics by the brand sought further exclusivity with its limited edition releases, artist or designer collaborations among others.

Iconic Collaborations
Perhaps, one of the advantages of Stüssy is that it actively works with other brands. The brand logos have been advertised over the years associated with renowned names such as Nike, Supreme, and Dior. These partnerships kept the brand afloat into the competitive fashion world today, the fusion of glamour and attitude in the clothes, goggles, sneakers and a new market.

Conclusion
That allows Stüssy not only to be a brand but also an emblem of streetwear culture for many years now. For this, it has placed itself at par with fashion creativity, exclusivity that complements its authentic look. Despite the time we have witnessed or we are new to streetwear, Stüssy still brings out pieces that reflect and create that culture.
